Opeth vs Tech.Ed – impossible dilemma!

I think with some confidence that I am the only person in the world who has ever attempted to educate about SharePoint while using heavy metal (and my favourite band of the genre, Opeth) as a metaphor. Specifically, I used metal genres to explain the difference between collaborative document management and records management in relation to SharePoint.

Therefore, I feel that this blog is 5% Opeth and 95% SharePoint. 🙂

So I was well pleased to learn that Opeth is coming to town on September 2 and eagerly bought my tickets. But alas! Tech.Ed in Australia starts on September 2!

AAARRGH! What completely sucky timing!

I was really looking forward to Tech.Ed, specifically to catch up with some friends and finally meet some of the superstars of the SharePoint world in person. (I owe lots of beers to lots of people!)

So this is a real moral dilemma! Metal vs Microsoft?

tough choice! What would you choose? 🙂

  1. Paul-
A colleague and I have started to outline a blog post about SharePoint metaphors we have run into, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous. We’re up to a dozen so far, and I hadn’t included your heavy metal metaphor (how did I miss that post?!). You, sir, may have won the grand prize for the “least obvious but upon further examination, surprisingly apt” metaphor. I’ll post you when we publish.

Sorry, I can’t add anything to your thought process on the dilemma — I only really know about one of the options (hint: not Opeth).

  2. I’d suggest going to Opeth and going to Teched New Zealand, the dates are slightly different. It’s going to be a similar set of speakers and sessions with the island feel.

  3. As a big fan of Opeth and no fan of anything Microsoft, I think you made the right decision in choosing Opeth 🙂

  4. Hi Paul
I noticed today that Opeth are playing in Sydney on 6th September. You can go to Tech.Ed and then go to the Sydney Opeth concert the day after!
